This top floor apartment (fourth floor, shared stairs, no lift) is right in the centre of Edinburgh just off the Royal Mile and a couple of hundred yards from the Fruitmarket Art Gallery and the main rail station, Edinburgh Waverley. It's a comfortable and cosy base for up to four (one bedroom with king-size bed plus a double sofa-bed in the sitting room), and just about everything in Edinburgh is within easy walking distance. Owners Ewan Halley and Martin Mellor have provided lots of helpful information about restaurants, pubs, where to go, etc. On the landing just outside the apartment a flight of stairs goes up to a large roof terrace with seats, a table, and barbeque. From here there are the most fantastic views and you get a very real sense of being in Edinburgh (one view shown in the photograph above). You can see over the city across the roof-tops all the way to the sea, the panorama of classical buildings on Calton Hill, and wild and rocky Salisbury Crags. Turret tops and gables around about have carved stone cats, a dragon, sun and moon and other curiosities as finials.
